Ann Homann
has performed as principal oboist of the Metropolitan Orchestra of Saint Louis (in its earlier forms) since 1991. She is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where she was a student of Joseph Turner and co-principal oboist of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra. Prior to attending Peabody Ms. Homann studied with Thomas Parkes and John Ferrillo. As a student of Peter Bowman and Marc Gordon, she received her Master of Music degree from the Saint Louis Conservatory. She has frequently performed as a substitute/replacement player with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, is a member of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Illinois Chamber Orchestra, and is serving as a guest principal oboist of the Peoria Symphony in the 2013-2014 season. Ms. Homann is the principal oboist of the Saint Louis Philharmonic, Union Avenue Opera and the Masterworks Chorale and is solo oboist (also playing English horn and oboe d’amore) with the American Kantorei, a choral and instrumental ensemble that specializes in the music of J.S. Bach. She serves on the faculty of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Principia College and the Community Music School of Webster University, and is an active soloist and chamber music performer, especially as a founding member of the Equinox Chamber Players and Trio Bella. Ms. Homann is also an emerging visual artist, her paintings having been juried in to a number of St. Louis regional exhibitions, and she enjoys living near the Missouri Botanical Garden with her bassoonist husband, Robert Mottl. In 7th grade, she listened to a Boston Symphony/Munch recording of Schubert’s “Unfinished” (incessantly, just ask her older sister), and decided she wanted to play in an orchestra. She first performed the Schubert two years later, with the Jacksonville (Illinois) Symphony.
